You realize these sermons that stick to you eternally? I remember one from my early years of college. Hillside Church, Sunday evening service (back in the day when churches still had Sunday night-time companies), Harry Brown of Cityteam ministries. He mentioned (to paraphrase): In the event you (as an American church-goer) had to jot down a missionary prayer letter to your fellow church members on how God is using you to minister to others, what would you say? Cuz we’re all alleged to be missionaries.
That gets drilled into our heads, even when we are little in Sunday School. But what does that even imply? One thing that I actually really love about truly being an overseas missionary is that it forces me to really stay like a missionary. We’re held totally accountable for our funds. We get a stipend from HOPAC but almost all that we dwell on comes from sacrificial donations. Have you learned what it feels like to stay like that? We think twice about how we spend it.
We are continually conscious that all the things now we have in the results of different people’s love and faithfulness. We’re forced to see what we own as sacredly entrusted to us to do God’s work. Yes, we do go on holidays and we actually eat greater than rice and beans. But we are reminded on a daily basis that all that we have now belongs to God. We’re held completely accountable for our time. Yearly our mission requires every of us individually to write and submit extensive objectives for ourselves: personally, spiritually, and in ministry. Mine this 12 months take up 3 single-spaced pages.
It’s like New Year’s Resolutions on steroids. Every month, we should submit a report which states how we’re doing to meet those objectives. We consistently dwell with a sense of calling. We have been pressured to be deliberate and purposeful in everything we do. Where do we dwell? What neighborhood should we stay in?
How huge ought to our home be? Who do we spend time with? What sort of a way of life can we choose? How will we spend our Friday nights? How will our children be educated? Each question is answered in accordance with our calling. Everything should be purposeful. And finally, we have to put in writing prayer letters every month.

We’re not just held accountable to our mission to but to a whole bunch of other individuals as properly. Every month, we hire are doing our job, as a result of if we’re not, we’ll don’t have anything to say to the scores of people who pray for us and financially assist us. Yes, it’s very intimidating!
But it’s also wonderful. Let me make one thing really clear. There isn’t something special about us that puts us in a distinct class than your common Christian. There isn’t any cause why we should be put on a pedestal. Our halos aren’t shinier than anybody else’s. Our hearts are sinful and our phrases are usually not all the time God-honoring.
